A man has been charged following an incident at a Southport clothing business this morning.

Shortly after 2am police were called to the Nerang Street store after an alert to the store’s owner to the presence of someone inside.

When officers arrived, it will be alleged they observed a man inside attempting to flee towards the back and through the ceiling.

It will be alleged the man went to the roof and refused to come down.

Police were able to speak with the man and with the assistance of other agencies he was arrested without incident.

The store sustained some minor damage.

A 37-year-old Surfers Paradise man has been charged with one count each of enter premise and commit an indictable offence, and wilful damage.

He is expected to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court this afternoon.
