A woman will front court next month, accused of defrauding her former employer out of $27,000 after claiming sick leave benefits for a fake illness over a three-year period.
Officers launched an investigation into the woman in June following reports a not-for-profit cancer organisation on Missenden Road, Camperdown, had been swindled out of cash by a former employee.
A 35-year-old Harrington Park woman was arrested at Newtown police station on Thursday and charged with three counts of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception.
The woman faked an illness while she was employed with the organisation between 2017 and 2020 in a bid to claim benefits, including sick leave, totalling $27,000, police will allege in court.
It’s also alleged another staffer was hired to directly assist her in completing work duties, costing the organisation almost $89,000.
She was granted conditional bail and will appear in Newtown Local Court in November.
