Last week the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre released data that showed a record one in 24 Australians say they used cocaine in 2019.
Research found cocaine use had surged between 2016 and 2019, with a staggering 4.5 per cent of people over the age of 14 saying they had used the drug in 2019, up more than 2 per cent since 2016.
Despite an increase in the number of individuals using cocaine, rates of use remained relatively low, with only 16.8 per cent of users taking the drug once a month or more.
The findings coincide with the latest wastewater drug monitoring report from the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission, which found and estimated 5.7 tonnes of cocaine was consumed in 2019-20, up 85.6 per cent.
